Information on the Support for Historic Cemetery Strategic Plans
Loudoun Cemetery Conservancy is preparing to support up to eight historic cemeteries in 2026 to prepare their own Historic Cemetery Strategic Plan. These will be joint undertakings with active volunteer support provided by the friends of the selected cemetery working with our professional team and volunteers and utilizing selected financial contributions.
We can assist when needed as a vital part of the Strategic Planning process in the preparation of three key elements:
- A drone flight to map the cemetery, identify each gravestone with a unique pin number.
- An on the ground photographic documentation of each gravestone and landscape feature as a portfolio of current conditions, along with a spread sheet listing each gravestone by unique number and its present condition including an estimate of the cost to repair if needed.
- In unique situations where it is believed that there are substantial numbers of unmarked graves we will support their documentation by Ground Radar Penetration or other appropriate techniques.
The Loudoun Cemetery Conservancy believes that the most important contribution we can make is to support the preparation of historic cemetery strategic plans. Once the support group of the cemetery has a plan they can begin to raise funds to implement the plan, organize their working crews to accomplish specific objectives, and budget their annual activities.
If your cemetery wishes to be considered as a candidate for the preparation of their strategic plan please fill in the application below. Applications will be received from October 1, 2025, until December 31, 2025. The selected cemeteries will be announced in January 2026.
