Course Details:

This is a one day course from 9:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The main topics being covered during the course are:

  1. Why cemetery conservation is important
  2. How to restore and clean gravestones
  3. What landscaping equipment is appropriate and safe to use on cemetery grounds
  4. What are the best types of plants to grow on cemetery grounds
  5. How to create a cemetery maintenance plan
  6. Virginia’s current laws and regulations regarding cemeteries
  7. A thirty minute cemetery walk through discussing stone restoration and landscaping on site.

 

Questions you may have:

  1. What should I wear?
    Please wear shoes you are comfortable walking outside in, as there is a portion of the course that requires walking around the cemetery, as well as a jacket if the weather is cold. Any technical equipment required for the course will be provided to you during the training session.
  2. How many people are in the class?
    There will a maximum of 20 people in the class.
  3. What if I am sick or have a last minute emergency come up during the course?
    This course is offered in a limited capacity throughout the year. We ask that you attend the course outside of illness or an emergency, however if you cannot attend please contact the Director of Training, Samantha Ferringer at (845) 596-6616 as soon as possible. The $25 in non-refundable.
  4. What if I have dietary restrictions?
    Can I bring my own lunch?
    You are welcome to bring your own lunch. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please contact Samantha Ferringer at (845) 596-6616.
  5. Are there any other materials that I need to bring?
    We encourage all participants to bring a pen and paper for any notes you would like to take.
  6. What happens when I finish the course?
    Upon completing this course, you will receive a certificate of completion as well as a cemetery handbook summarizing the information provided in the course, as well as outside references.
