First Cemetery Conservation Training Session a Success!

The February 22nd training course took place at Ketoctin Baptist Church in Purcellville. The cemetery preservation discussions were led by Howard Wellman of Wellman Conservation, Seth Schiever at Davey’s Landscaping and Ken Flemming, a representative for Ketoctin Baptist Church and Trustee.

The main focus of this course was cemetery preservation focusing on stone repair, do’s and don’t for stone maintenance and basic cemetery maintenance, as well as cemetery zoning and ordinances. The course was very successful with participants leaving with a strong knowledge for the need and the “how to” for cemetery preservation.

A few quotes from our participants:

“I thought the training was wonderful. I have no previous experience so I feel like I am very much better prepared to work towards maintaining a cemetery.”

“Great course, thank you!”

“Ken was great – very helpful and a wealth of knowledge. Howard is very knowledgeable.”

“Unique location for training – good idea!”
