Cemetery Preservation and Strategic Plannning Course: May 9, 2026

Join us at New Jersualem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville for a hands-on learning experience with experts in the field of cemetery strategic planning, documentation, preservation, and cemetery landscaping.
This is a one-day course that begins at 9:30a.m. and ends by 4:00p.m. Lunch will be provided. The topics being covered are below:
- Why cemetery conservation is important, including a brief history of the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church cemetery.
- How to create a five-year work plan for the cemetery of interest including:
- Pre-requisite research, documentation and photographs.
- Identifying the type of conditions of gravestones for future priority for restoration.
- Identifying landscape conditions which require remedial work.
- Recommend priority actions, timing and budget.
- Multiple cemetery walkthroughs focusing on the details necessary for a five-year plan.
