Course Details:
This is a one-day course from 9:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Following the course, participants will be ready to undertake, under experienced supervision, a five-year work plan for the cemetery of interest. The main topics being covered during the course are:
- Why cemetery conservation is important, including a brief history of the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church cemetery.
- How to create a five-year work plan for the cemetery of interest including:
- Pre-requisite research, documentation and photographs.
- Identifying the type of conditions of gravestones for future priority for restoration.
- Identifying landscape conditions which require remedial work.
- Recommend priority actions, timing and budget.
- Multiple cemetery walkthroughs focusing on the details necessary for a five-year plan.
Questions you may have:
- What should I wear?
- Please wear shoes you are comfortable walking outside in, as there is a portion of the course that requires walking around the cemetery, as well as a jacket if the weather is cold. Any technical equipment required for the course will be provided to you during the training session.
- How many people are in the class?
- There will be a maximum of 30 people in the class.
- What if I am sick or have a last-minute emergency come up during the course?
- This course is offered in a limited capacity throughout the year. We ask that you attend the course outside of illness or an emergency, however if you cannot attend please contact the Director of Training, Samantha Ferringer at (845) 596-6616 as soon as possible. The $25 in non-refundable.
- What if I have dietary restrictions? Can I bring my own lunch?
- You are welcome to bring your own lunch. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please contact Samantha Ferringer at (845) 596-6616.
- Are there any other materials that I need to bring?
- We encourage all participants to bring a pen and paper for any notes you would like to take, however, course notebooks will be provided.
- What happens when I finish the course?
- Upon completing this course, you will receive a certificate of completion as well as a cemetery handbook summarizing the information provided in the course, as well as outside references.
